A friend of mine yesterday asked me a great question. So what does this mean for the layman manager?

As many of us know in the safety world, there are quite a few different risk management processes out there – financial, insurance, quality, environmental, public policy, etc. What the new CAN/CSA 31000 standard does is it integrates these risk management processes by describing common terminology and practices. By integrate, I mean that it brings them together so that there's a common approach.

Another great definition for integration that I heard recently was from Walter Schwabe at FusedLogic (http://www.fusedlogic.com) and it went like this – integration means that a process is "baked in, not bolted on". Great quote…thanks Walter!
